Swallow Reef is a paradise for sea birds, this also the origin of its name

This islet is a rest spot for migratory birds when they fly across the South China Sea, because it's located between the mainland of Asia and the islands of the South Pacific. There was no human habitation here for thousands of years, and as a result there are large flocks of birds belonging to a wide variety of different species. This paradise for seabirds presents a unique natural spectacle, which Western navigators named "Swallow Island" when they first came here and saw the huge numbers of seabirds. The Malaysian government has established a nature reserve on the reef to preserve the natural ecology, provide the seabirds with a suitable habitat, and to attract tourists.
